WHO I AM
Hello, I am Zara. I’m a psychologist and therapist and and I created WhereToTalk as an umbrella platform to represent an interconnected network and middle ground, providing both the public and fellow practitioners with appropriate information and support.
WhereToTalk came about through personal experiences. Many of my clients mentioned how difficult it was to access counselling (i.e. waiting times, costs, inconvenience and stigma). I recognised that what’s worked before for Talking Therapies was no longer an option. It was time for visionary creators, change makers, maverick entrepreneurs and impactful leaders to rewrite the rules of Talking Therapies for the 21st century!
Like most services, technology has disrupted the traditional Talking Therapies landscape. Online practice is still in its’ infancy and we are all at different stages of educating ourselves around online counselling and therapy. Alongside conventional face-to-face meetings, which will always be valued, the public, particularly the younger generation is turning to the Internet for help.
WhereToTalk’s vision is to make counselling and therapy accessible to everyone, and meeting online helps to achieve this. So I’ve brought together all the practical, legal and ethical aspects of working online into an e-book titled Counselling Online Guide here.
TRAINEE STUDENT PLACEMENTS
With the lack of placements available, searching for one can feel like an insurmountable task, so I’ve created a service here that gives student counsellors the best chance of securing a placement.
PAID COUNSELlING POSITIONS
WhereToTalk values all mental health professionals and challenges the status quo by supporting the campaign against unpaid work within the Counselling Professions. If we don’t pay qualified professionals to work, how on earth can they progress into research and teaching? How can they help to improve other people’s mental health and change lives for the better? Consequently, I only advertise the latest paid positions here.
My aim is to share information, inspire others, and often give hope when needed, while providing a service to the public and fellow professionals.
