We are seeking a qualified counsellor with experience of working with children and families in a hospital setting.
The appointed person will join the child psychology team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).
The team is friendly and supportive and there is a strong team ethos of looking after ourselves and one another so that we can give our best to the families we meet. This role is 11.25 hours per week part time.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
The role of counsellor will be utilised in the team to meet with children and families, both inpatient and outpatient, who may not meet the threshold for clinical psychology input or who may benefit from some initial counselling input prior to clinical psychology sessions.
They will also be involved in running informal support groups for parents on the paediatric intensive care unit and potentially on other wards.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The role requires someone with excellent communication skills as liaising with the multidisciplinary team is essential as is the ability to work sensitively with families during stressful and difficult experiences.
The appointed person will also have an aptitude for establishing positive relationships with people. High standards of reliability and commitment are required as is efficient management of paperwork.
There are many opportunities for clinical supervision and for cpd. Flexible working is also a possibility in discussion with line manager.
