Counsellor Required: University of Aberdeen, Scotland
We are seeking Counsellors for up to 5 days per week in a range of possible scenarios including term-time (32 weeks), full time (52 weeks), evening sessional (4pm-7pm), located within the University Counselling Service, at the Foresterhill campus, and/or at Hillhead student accommodation village.
We are seeking Counsellors to offer individual counselling to students.
The terms are flexible, at this stage, to best meet the needs of the student population but will range from evening sessional (Tues/Wed/Thurs) through to day-time, term-time only and/or full-time.
You will also be required to work with groups, offering workshops, short courses and delivering wellbeing-related and psychoeducational presentations.
You will be expected to liaise with other members of the Counselling Service staff team, as well as with other Student Support staff within the University, and to participate in team meetings, conferences and training events.
You will also be required to uphold professional standards, adhering to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework, as well as keeping service records and attending supervision.
Candidates must hold a recognised counselling qualification (Diploma or higher degree) and must be a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Candidates must have worked for a number of years as a Counsellor since qualifying, ideally in a Higher Education setting from an Integrative, Pluralistic, CBT or Person-Centred perspective. Candidates should have experience of One-at-a-time/Single Session Therapy and Crisis-Management.
Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 6 salary scale (£33,797 – £40,323 pro rata per annum) and negotiable with placement according to qualifications and experience.
As this post is funded with financial support from the Scottish Government/Scottish Funding Council it is available for an initial fixed period of up to four years.
Any appointment will be made subject to satisfactory references and a 12 month probation period.
The positions are available in a range of potential contexts, from 4 days per week (52 weeks), up to 5 days per week term-time only (32 weeks) and evening term-time only (4pm-7pm, 32 weeks) based at a potential split of locations within the University campus, including the University Counselling Service.
