This is an exciting post for a qualified, accredited and experienced counsellor / supervisor to take the next step towards a managerial position in the Higher Education Counselling Sector.  You will join a small, supportive and efficient team where alongside carrying out individual clinical work you will get the opportunity to oversee the trainee and associate placement scheme and work with the Counselling Service Manager to manage, review and develop the Service.  This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is looking to move into Service Management.

Birkbeck is looking for a dynamic, motivated, and experienced counsellor / supervisor to take the role as Deputy Counsellor in a relatively small but fast-paced and highly efficient counselling service.

You will be an accredited and experienced psychodynamic counsellor / supervisor with an excellent understanding of what can be achieved in short term work in a Higher Educational or other organisational setting.  Ideally you would hold a qualification in supervision.

You will have some leadership experience in relation to service management, strategic planning, recruitment and staff development and be prepared to take the lead on projects and assist the Manager with service reviews and evaluation.

The Deputy role requires flexibility, and will require you to take different positions and different times in relation to your colleagues and management.  You will be sufficiently comfortable with taking authority that you can step-up in the absence of the Manager and be directly accountable to them at the same time. You will be able to lead your colleagues in some situations and follow in others.
