Accredited Counsellor Required (Metropolitan Police Service): London

Hours: Full time or Part time – 3 days a week minimum

Role Summary 

To provide a confidential counselling and information service and related proactive functions to staff within the context of a multi-specialist occupational health team within the Metropolitan Police Service.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Management and delivery of occupational health products and service delivery to designated Occupational Command Units or Business Groups by adhering to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Framework of Practice and MPS policies and processes, and providing:

  • Short-term counselling for clients with personal or work related issues, who
  • are off sick or at work, up to six sessions, with a goal of returning staff back to
  • recuperative/full duties
  • Welfare support and advice including money advice
  • Intermittent, longer-term, on-going support to suspended officers
  • Advice/support to managers about counselling services
  • Pre-selection and on-going monitoring screening, for vulnerable roles
  • Presentations to groups on the counselling/OH services when agreed
  • Trauma Support debriefs and follow up
  • On call duties
  • Psychological screening.

Experience, skills and knowledge required for the role

  • Demonstrate a commitment to professional development by attending all team meetings and development opportunities
  • Participate in the development of occupational health and counselling policies and guidelines as requested

  • Represent Occupational Health at appropriate meetings both internally and externally as requested
  • Any other roles as deemed fit by head of profession.
