Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Addictions Counsellor (Band 6, 0.6 WTE, permanent contract) based at The Hellingly Centre, which is part of Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Forensic Healthcare Service. Our service has developed the Secure Recovery model of care which provides the framework to support service users in their pathway through inpatient services and back to life in the community.

We are looking for someone who is committed to the provision of excellent evidence-based clinical interventions in a forensic setting. You will join dedicated multidisciplinary inpatient teams and a friendly Psychological Professionals (PP) team. The PP team prides itself in being highly supportive, with regular opportunities to think together in team meetings, reflective practice and team days.

You will receive a comprehensive induction, regular supervision, opportunities to shadow or co-work, and opportunities for training.

Main duties of the job

As part of our experienced psychological therapies team, you will accept referrals from all four of our wards, for assessment, individual intervention and for the substance use treatment programme. You will work alongside an experienced addictions counsellor in providing the addictions provision to the Hellingly centre. There is the opportunity to work flexibly with different service user groups and the opportunity to practise in your therapeutic specialism. You will work autonomously with individuals and also co-facilitate on the groupwork programme. You will contribute to complex assessments of mental health need and risk/offending behaviours, and develop formulations of need and risk. You will contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings and discussions bringing a substance misuse perspective. There is the opportunity for innovation and developing areas of particular interest.
