Role Details

What we are looking for

Polaris Children’s Services (PCS) are looking for a Counsellor who can provide high quality support to the clients of PCS in accordance with your training and accreditation and within the specific project or service aims.

We need someone to be responsible for providing therapeutic interventions, guidance and training to young people, their families and the social care team supporting the improvement of family relationships and promoting emotional well-being in their own home and other community based venues working within a team based in Cheshire West and Chester. This role requires an extremely creative and flexible individual who will employ an integrated and united approach to work collaboratively.

Role responsibilities:

  • To form and maintain co-operative relationships with external mental health, statutory social care, voluntary/independent sector services for children and young people i.e. CAMHS, Children’s Social Care, NSPCC etc. To refer to these services when clinically appropriate and incorporate these professionals into the team around the family. To intervene at all levels of the system as required to enable best outcomes for children and families.
  • To offer professional consultation, advice and support to colleagues within and outside PCS to discuss therapeutic issues that arise in relation to the work.
  • To make comprehensive records of work undertaken and provide these promptly alongside preparing other appropriate records, including key information sheets, reports for reviews, case conferences and court.
  • To undertake where necessary, to the assessment of young people’s emotional and developmental needs.
  • To hold a caseload of up to 13 cases for on-going therapeutic intervention but also respond to families in crisis as and when directed by the Therapy Manager.
  • Participate in the assessment of young people and families’ emotional and developmental needs.
  • Facilitate group therapy sessions, as appropriate (e.g. attachment and therapeutic parenting groups).
  • Work effectively in partnership with other agencies to implement seamless care pathways in order to meet the complex needs of young people.
  • Accurately record all therapeutic interventions delivered and their outcomes onto Liquid Logic to enable the performance of the service to be monitored and the family’s support package to be continually reviewed, ensuring it continues to meet their requirements.

About You:

  • Hold a recognised relevant qualification or certificate
  • Be registered and accredited with a recognised accrediting body
  • Receive ongoing clinical supervision
  • Must possess a full driving licence and have unrestricted access to your own vehicle
  • Experience of working with vulnerable children and families
  • A broad knowledge of the presentations, effects and interventions of developmental Trauma, Attachment and related mental health concerns commonly perceived to be experienced by looked after children.
  • To have carried out professional assessments and articulated knowledge of how to analysis and communicate complex psychological concerns
  • A preliminary knowledge of child protection procedures
  • Effective collaboration with professionals in Health, Education and Social Services
