The role

This is a time of continuing and exciting development at Kidney Care UK, the leading kidney patient support charity nationwide. Our charity provides practical, financial, and emotional support to kidney patients and their families and consistently undertakes to improve kidney health and care services across the UK.

If you have three years’ post-qualification counselling experience, like to work as part of a team and feel passionate about supporting and empowering those whose daily lives are impacted through living with a chronic disease, we would love to hear from you. The charity is currently seeking an experienced telephone/online counsellor to join our Counselling Service in supporting adult clients and their families affected by chronic kidney disease (CKD).

The Counselling Service is based within Kidney Care UK Patient Services and works collaboratively with the Patient Grants Service (who offer patient information, advice, and hardship grants) and the Advocacy Service (who offer personal help and support to anyone affected by kidney disease).

As a Nationwide Counselling Service, we do not offer face-to-face client sessions and all our client engagement is either through telephone, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or WhatsApp.

The successful applicant will report to the Lead Counsellor, with the following essential requirements, skills, and experience:

  • Current BACP Membership.
  • Competent practitioner with at least three years’ post qualification client experience.
  • Hours per week can be flexibly agreed at but would need to be fixed, enable one day per week at Alton and include attendance in person for weekly Counselling Service Team Meetings and Peer Supervision.
  • Experience of supporting adults affected by chronic, life-limiting illnesses, or loss and grief.
  • Regular supervision with a qualified supervisor.

Experience of kidney care is desirable rather than essential and there will be a two-week induction period with training and familiarisation to service provided.

Closing date: Fri, 23rd September 2022 (4pm).

This posting may close earlier if we are able to fill this position faster than originally anticipated. We would therefore advise you apply asap.
