Due to increasing demand, we are seeking to recruit experienced counsellors to provide telephone and video therapy to cancer patients. Due to the current COVID-19 situation, this role will mostly involve working from home, although some occasional visits to the Christie site will be required. There may be a possibility for some face-to-face client work. This is a full or part-time, fixed term contract of up to 37.5 hours per week until end March 2022.

This is an opportunity to assist the Psycho-oncology Team in offering Level 3/4 support to patients affected by cancer. You will be responsible for providing specialist assessments and time-limited counselling interventions for out-patients. You will carry your own caseload, supported by the wider Psycho-Oncology team which includes psychiatrists, specialist mental health nurses, a psychologist and counsellors.

You will be a BACP Accredited counsellor or equivalent, with clinical experience of working in an oncology or physical health setting. You will be experienced in offering telephone and video counselling.

Main duties of the job

The psycho-oncology service provides psychological therapies and liaison psychiatry at NICE levels 3 and 4 to people with cancer. Psychological therapies offered include counselling, CBT, trauma therapies and psycho-sexual therapy.

The post holder provides specialist assessment and counselling interventions to out-patients, mostly one-to-one but may include working with couples. This will be predominantly working from home and through telephone and video counselling during the current Covid-19 pandemic, though may also require face to face sessions at Christie site(s). The post-holder carries their own caseload and works autonomously within the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions and Trust policies and procedures.

The post-holder is a member of a multidisciplinary team comprising psychiatrists, mental health nurses, counsellors, clinical psychologist and admin staff. The post-holder may also provide education and clinical supervision to other healthcare professionals within the Trust and contribute to the development of the service.
