We are looking to recruit a Counsellor with particular focus on support for Black and other minority ethnic students who will work within a team of experienced practitioners in the University’s Counselling Service.
The Counsellor will provide individual counselling that meets the needs of Black students and other students from minority ethnic backgrounds, and will also be expected to work with the full range of clients that approach our service, as necessary. The post holder will be responsible for their own clinical practice, including professional development. They will contribute to the operational development of the service and support the wider work of the Counselling Service within colleges, departments and external services, including contributing to the development of interventions for Black students and students from other minority ethnic backgrounds, and providing training for staff in welfare roles across the institution.
You will have experience of working clinically with clients from Black and/or other minority ethnic backgrounds and specific skills to engage sensitively and effectively with issues of ‘race’, racism and belonging in the context of the therapeutic process.
Applicants must have British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Individual Counsellor / UKCP / HCPC / BPS or equivalent body accreditation and registration. In the case of a Psychologist, qualified as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, one must be a graduate member and eligible for chartership of BPS.
The successful applicant will have substantial experience of delivering individual, psychodynamic or cognitive behavioural counselling/psychotherapy for a range of psychological problems and at significant depth, as well as experience and ability of adapting a therapeutic model to a brief approach; they will have experience of delivering training, groups or workshops and a detailed and contemporary familiarity with issues facing students in Higher Education.
