Kingston University’s Student Wellbeing Service is seeking to recruit a proactive and experienced counsellor or psychotherapist to be part of a responsive Student Wellbeing Team. This is a fixed term role providing a therapeutically sound service to students experiencing emotional and psychological difficulties while studying at Kingston University using a range of evidence based therapeutic techniques. The service has an integrative approach to counselling.
The Student Counsellor will be able to undertake a caseload doing assessment, counselling, crisis sessions and work effectively with students, staff and external agencies to ensure that students receive effective and timely support; will have experience in working in the HE setting, this includes contributing to regular case reviews and updates to case management involving students deemed at risk including liaison with community mental health teams and agencies in supporting students with acute/complex mental health difficulties in order to best address their needs.
The successful candidate will have the relevant experience as a proactive and efficient Counsellor or Psychotherapist, who will provide a professional therapeutic service for students, information to staff regarding wellbeing issues and support the administrative tasks as part of the Students Wellbeing Service.
The candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing a busy case load at peak times including assessments, crisis interventions, drop – in and providing brief therapy all of which will be operating under the relevant professional standards.
The Student counsellor will have commitment to following professional guidelines and to continued professional development, in line with the changing needs of students and the service as well as attending proactively to clinical supervision.
