East India is a 16-bedded ward in a medium secure forensic unit.

It is a service for adult males with offending history and personality disorder.

The ward operates as an adapted democratic Therapeutic Community creating an environment which turns experience into learning for both patients and staff.

The model of treatment is action based and uses an integration of psychoanalytical / dynamic concepts, cognitive behavioural and social systems theory to support the psychological, physical and social functioning of the individual within the group setting.

The therapeutic milieu encourages a culture of enquiry through the use of daily domestic tasks, and recreational aspects of living as a tool for understanding and exploring the interpersonal exchange between patients and staff.

The emphasis is on promoting personal awareness and social functioning particularly as these relate to criminal behaviour.

The post holder will focus on forming therapeutic, meaningful relationships with patients in line with the Therapeutic Community treatment model.

This will include participation in group work which is at the core of the treatment model.

In addition, the post holder will work contribute to groups and activities appropriate to the needs of the patient group and assist in the day to day running of the ward within a Medium Secure Unit setting.
